November 22nd:
Another task on your plate for the semester will be to make up a house for my Intro to IA students to make in the spring. We have a model foundation in the workshop which they put a model house onto. The scale is discussed below from Mr. Hibbard.
The house scale is 1 1/2 inches equals 12 inches. I used 2x6 framing because it is a little sturdier than 2x4.
A 2x6 is 1/4 x 3/4,
8 feet = 12 inches,
6 feet = 9 inches,
24 feet = 36 inches, etc.
The outside foundation dimensions of the model are 24"x36". I'm not dead set on this and we can use whatever you would like.
So the idea is for you to draft the framing of a single story house. Keep it simple, an intro student should be able to pick up your plan and have some idea on how to frame the house (typically the house is only framed, though with time there is no reason to stop there).
